News: Flash Flood in Spain (10/2024)

 


VOCABULARY

flash flood = a sudden local flood, typically due to heavy rain
swamped = saturated, immersed, inundated, consumed
tame = domesticate
swept away = to destroy or remove something completely
bank = side, margin (eg. stream, river)
tossed = thrown
burst = the water rises and goes on to the land
fled (infinitive: flee) = run, escape 
mud - the mixture between earth and water
debris - scattered pieces of rubbish; the remains of something broken down or destroyed
freak weather - an extreme weather condition with very strong wind, heavy rain, and often thunder
